NINTENDO NX's hybrid design has yet to be confirmed but has already been backed to boost the company, even though it faces a challenging test when launched against the Xbox One and PS4.

The Nintendo NX has been backed to shine if it includes a "hybrid" design

That's according to one expert who says reports that Nintendo will launch a new device which will include both portable and home-play options makes a lot of sense due to the company's dedication to both markets.
Queensland University of Technology video game lecturer Mitchell McEwan, told the New Daily that it would be a big boost for the Mario makers if they could make things easier for themselves when it came to software support.
“It makes sense – they’ve been struggling in both markets – to not have to support both platforms with independent software, but to actually put all their development efforts toward one console," McEwan said.

“The rumour about the NX is that it’s a hybrid console, so it would be a portable console like a 3DS, like a handheld, that interfaces with a home console.
“You could take games on the go, but then that processing power adds to the home console so you can play games on your TV as well."
But even though a Nintendo NX hybrid console could prove a winning formula, it will still face a tough challenge trying to conquer the console war in mid-cycle.

“First of all, it’s very hard to break in mid-cycle," he added.
"Playstation 4 and Xbox One are just reaching their peak now. They’ve been out for a couple of years, so Nintendo would be coming in mid-hardware cycle, which historically has been a very hard thing to do well.
“But Nintendo has a history of bucking or creating new industry trends."
A new message shared by Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima confirmed that the new console will continue to make up the core of Nintendo's business.

Nintendo have yet to reveal the Nintendo NX

"For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept and our unique software-led hardware-software integrated business will continue to constitute the core business for Nintendo," Kimishima explains in the new Nintendo statement.
"For the purpose of maximizing the population that interact with Nintendo IP, we will also enter into the smart device gaming business and aim to generate revenue and profit from it as well as to create synergy with the dedicated video game platform business."
