THE Nintendo NX is still the company's top priority and will include details that some fans will find either intriguing or worrying.
The Wii U is now considered a major misstep by Nintendo, who are still to release the full features behind their NX project.
Rumours of a multi-platform device, complete with a controller that can also work as a standalone device, have been swirling since its announcement.
However, nothing concrete has been pinned down by Nintendo, who have confirmed they will not speak further about the console until 2016.
A new message shared by Nintendo president Tatsumi Kimishima has been released, revealing some of the company's future goals while addressing shareholders and investors.
It helps to provide a wider understanding of how they hope to shape their business strategy, while also commenting on the NX project.
Kimishima reveals that the new console will continue to make up the core of Nintendo's business but he also speaks at length on how they want to expand their consumer reach.
"For our dedicated video game platform business, Nintendo is currently developing a gaming platform codenamed “NX” with a brand-new concept and our unique software-led hardware-software integrated business will continue to constitute the core business for Nintendo," Kimishima explains in the new Nintendo statement.
"For the purpose of maximizing the population that interact with Nintendo IP, we will also enter into the smart device gaming business and aim to generate revenue and profit from it as well as to create synergy with the dedicated video game platform business."
"We are actively offering Nintendo IP in a variety of different ways so that not only current players of our video games but all consumers - including those who used to play but currently do not and even those who have never played our video games before - will also come in contact with Nintendo IP.
"Nintendo will continue to flexibly transform itself by adapting to changing times while constantly valuing the spirit of originality based on the belief that the “true value of entertainment lies in its uniqueness” - and will continue to provide products and services that people will be surprised and delighted by."
Something that fans will want to make a note of is that Kimishima continues to refer to the NX as "a brand-new concept".
Many, however, will be hoping that Nintendo do not get caught out by consumer trends again and find themselves with another Wii U situation
Nintendo executive and Mario creator Shigeru Miyamoto revealed his thoughts on the failure of the console earlier this year, saying: "The uniqueness of [the Wii U's tablet] features were perhaps not as strong as they were when we had first begun developing them."
An Nintendo NX update last week claimed that the new console would be similar in power to the Xbox One but failed to mention anything about a multi-platform design.
