BUNGIE have revealed they have new plans to update Destiny: The Taken King in February and have also teased a new event.
Destiny: The Taken King could be heading to Mercury with Bungie at the helm |
UPDATE ONE: Destiny fans who received the new bundle of goodies included in their bonus for logging on and playing The Taken King between the dates listed below, have been discussing just what the next step for the epic space shooter might be.
The Rising Light emblem also came with Motes of Light and Strange Coins and appears to point to the next location being cooked up by Bungie.
The notice of the new items came with the title: "Days of The Dawning" which is also thought to be connected with a new in-game event.
The Rising Light emblem looks to depict the VEX buildings of Mercury set against a giant sun, could the venue of Osiris' temple be the next big location to visit in The Taken King?
Destiny was always expected to include more adventures on the planet and it would appear that it could be about to play a bigger role later this year.
It remains one of the last explored planets in the Solar System, playing host to the Trials of Osiris temple, its special exclusive social space for flawless victors and a selection of PvP maps.
It was revealed in 2015 that Mercury was originally going to play a much larger role in the overarching Destiny story but was largely cut, along with a main character during a story reshuffle during development.
A new Destiny Taken King update is planned for February |
The studio are currently holding back on posting their usual weekly updates on how they hope to improve the game, and have confirmed that they will be sharing no new information until next week.
However, Bungie did confirm on Twitter that they have plans to release a new Destiny update in February.
Destiny is patched frequently to make way for new quests and secret gear to be unlocked; the last major revamp for the game was in December.
Bungie revealed that they would be sharing more information next Thursday, but won’t be making a big announcement.
“The Bungie Weekly Update will return on 1/21. Not a major reveal, but a preview of our February Update. More to come,” the official Destiny reads.
Neither Destiny devs, or Taken King director Luke Smith have given much away about what is planned in 2016 but leaks have suggested that a new game could be released near the end of the year.
It also appears that the studio may be gearing up for the first big Destiny event of 2016, which could be titled “The Dawning”.
Bungie have big plans for Destiny in Year Two |
The Destiny database has been updated with several new items related to The Dawning, a name that would fit in well with the start of the new year.
With a heap of new items related to the subject - references made to a new dawn in the recent Bungie year review - and the subject being touched upon in a recent email sent out, it appears likely that it will have some kind of connection to Bungie's new plans.
Players were rewarded earlier this week by simply logging onto the game between January 7 through 10 with a new emblem, which is set to be sent out on January 12.
