Netflix has stormed up the charts, into fifth place in the Top 20 Coolest Brands in the UK 2015

SPOTIFY has entered this year's CoolBrands Top 20 for the first time – as Netflix soared past James Bond car manufacturer Aston Martin.

 

The annual report into the UK's most desired brands have been released, with US technology companies dominating the top spots.

Apple – which last week released its new iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus smartphones – has topped the Top 20 for the fourth year in a row.

The Cupertino firm's latest smartphones boast pressure sensitive displays, which add new ways to interact with the smartphone, and a new colour, dubbed Rose Gold.

Spotify was the highest new entry into the CoolBrands Top 20, which placed 11th in the chart.

 

The hugely popular music streaming service topped brands like Adidas, Sonos and Virgin Atlantic.

Meanwhile, Netflix stormed up five places in the charts to fifth place – placing above Chanel, YouTube and Google.

Facebook-owned photo sharing social network Instagram made it into the top 10 for the first time.

Instagram recently updated its app to include panorama and portrait-style photographs.

Sonos, the multi-room wireless sound system solution, also joined the list for the first time – besting high-end brand Bang & Olufsen by two places.

Chairman of the CoolBrands Council, Stephen Cheliotis: "Attaining Top 20 CoolBrands status takes time and isn't the result of a one year fad or flash in the pan.

"Young brands however, like Netflix and Instagram, are showing clear momentum. 

"They are moving up the Top 20 at a decent pace and posing a threat to established sector peers, suggesting they'll challenge the leading brand overall."

 

The CoolBrands Top 20 is now in its 14th year.

The chart is compiled of some 1,450 brands, based on the opinions of 2,500 UK consumers and an independent judging panel.
