Many Brits admit to poor vegetable knowledge

Over two thirds see themselves as fit and well, yet many of these people are currently spending next to nothing on nourishing fruit and vegetables.
The study - by ao.com - revealed we’re a nation of vegetable scrooges, with a huge 60 per cent of people currently spending less than £10 per week on their fruit and veg.
Over half of the population also wished they knew more about what to do with vegetables in their meals - two thirds of these being 25-36 year olds.

People were unable to identify vegetables such as chicory

A third of Britons attributed this due to schools failing our children in health and nutrition education.
Regional trends were picked up by the research with cities such as Leeds, Belfast and Liverpool scoring the lowest for correctly identifying vegetables such as rhubarb, kohlrabi and chicory, with 71 per cent of those surveyed incorrectly identifying peppers as a vegetable.
The people of Brighton were also first to put their hands up for admitting their knowledge of vegetables is limited.

Many admitted to spending less than £10 each week on vegetables

Notably, the male participants surveyed were able to correctly identify more vegetables than women and also more accurately point out their nutritional values – such as broccoli having the highest protein count per calorie.
Almost 46 per cent of women believe veg is too expensive, prompting the study’s authors to suggest female shoppers dodge the healthy aisles in pursuit of a bargain.
This survey coincides with another piece of research revealing - despite only spending a limited amount on fruit and vegetables - Britons are after a quick fix for weight loss and are prepared to give up a lot to shed weight.

One in ten would give up sex if it meant they could lose weight

Most would spend an average of £452 per person to lose a stone, it said.
The research, conducted by Whitworth, also divulged that three quarters of us would be willing to give up our social media to achieve desired weight loss.
More shockingly, one in ten would give up SEX if it meant they could shed the pounds and five per cent of people asked would cut ties with their own MUM if it meant they lost weight.
