TWITTER has sparked a furious backlash after changing users' timelines again just weeks after replacing the 'favourite' button with a heart.
Tweets will now be organised by relevance rather than in the usual reverse chronological order.
New Chief Executive Jack Dorsey has been rushing to introduce new initiatives after the microblogging site revealed slow user growth.
Liina Potter, spokeswoman for Twitter, said in a statement: "Yes, this is an experiment.
"We're continuing to explore ways to surface the best content for people using Twitter."
But users of the mammoth 320-million-strong social media platform have blasted the new "experiment".
Using the site itself to criticise the decision made by bosses, Twitter users threatened to quit the site.
Owen Pike tweeted: "I use @Twitter to see what happens and when. Showing posts out of order is one of the things I hate the most about Facebook. Please don't."
Last month, Twitter replaced its option to "favourite" a tweet with ha new heart-shaped "like" button.
The move brought the site closer to Facebook, which also has a "like" feature.
In 2012, Facebook also changed its timeline to show posts, images and videos according to relevance rather than chronology.
