BBC iPlayer DOWN: Fan's FURY as online TV and radio catch-up service CRASHES

BBC is experiencing "technical issues" with a number of online services, including its website, BBC News app and the hugely popular iPlayer catch-up service.

The BBC is currently experiencing "technical issues" with a number of online services, including its website, mobile apps, BBC iPlayer and online radio stations.

Fans flocked to social media to complain after the hugely popular catch-up service, which lets viewers watch BBC radio and television shows on-demand via a smartphone, games console or smart TV, became unresponsive.

"Hi, we’re experiencing some technical issues at the moment, which we hope to resolve soon," the BBC iPlayer Twitter account admitted. "Sorry for the inconvenience."

The broadcaster also admitted it was experiencing problems with the BBC website, "We're aware of a technical issue affecting the BBC website and are working to fix this now."

The BBC says online services are intermittent.

Fans of the worldwide broadcaster started to report issues around 7am this morning. 

Independent website DownDetector.uk, which detects "when services go down or have outages", reported a spike in the number of people complaining about outages on the BBC website across the UK and the globe within the last hour.

 

iPlayer allows UK residents to catch-up on their favourite BBC TV shows, films and radio programs

 

Thousands of people have complained about the service being unresponsive, with most users – some 37 per cent – experiencing issues with the website.

"I'm getting 500 internal errors on your site.  You sorting it out or has the New Years Party started early?," one user tweeted.
