LG will reveal its latest 55inch rolling television at the Consumer Electronics Show, CES, in 2016 |
THE staggeringly thin HD television LG teased earlier this year will reportedly hit stores in 2016.
LG this summer revealed it has been hard at work on a HD television so THIN it could hang on a wall, like wallpaper.
LG has previously shown off the display technology, which can be rolled up like a poster, and hung using only magnets.
One sample shown off by LG was a svelte 0.97mm thick and weighed just 1.9kg.
LG is using OLED technology, organic light-emitting diodes, which means a bulky backlight is not needed for the display.
By hanging on the wall using magnets, the new LG TV could revolutionise the adaptability of big screen televisions.
LG plans to unveil a 55inch rollable display at the International Consumer Electronics Show, in January 2016.
If LG is able to produce the wallpaper TV at a competitive price, it could be revolutionary |
Mass production is set to begin later in the year with consumer versions shipping in the near future.
Speaking to the Korea Times, a spokesperson for LG official revealed: “There are still a lot of technological barriers to put the conceptual TV into the industry’s mainstream.
"However the key thing is that people’s lives will be changed in a good way thanks to improvements in technology."
