SOME say it was the heyday for fashion and music, but a large number of Brits have revealed they want to bring back 70s food to the everyday menu.
When you think back to the 1970s, it's all long-hair, wide flares and psychedelic colours - but what about the food?
For so long we've mocked the prawn cocktail as 'old fashioned' and pooh-poohed the idea of arctic rolls.
In a shock new study, it's been revealed nearly half of Brits asked would love to be presented with fabulous 70s food at a dinner party.
It looks like us Brits are ready to embrace 70s parties once again with prawn cocktails, After Eight mints and lemon meringues as part of the spread.
New research by Whitby Seafoods reveals some foods, however, are definitely off the party menu. We’re quite happy not to see the return of avocado vinaigrette, smash and Blue Nun.
And it's not just the food people are pining for. Brits miss the fun and camaraderie of party games such as the fondly remembered Twister and classic Etch-a-Sketch.
Spirograph and Spacehoppers also came out high on the list of fun past-times that simply cannot be replaced by today’s tablets and other expensive gadgets.
Yet the nation remains divided on Flares and perms despite the current fashion trend for all things 70s.
Top 70s Food and Drink Icons Brits want back at our dinner parties:
- Prawn Cocktail
- After Eight Mints
- Lemon Meringue Pie
- Black Forest Gateau
- Arctic Roll
- Scampi
- 7.Fish fingers
- 8.Milk Tray
- 9.Gammon and Pineapple
- Vol au Vents
Laura Whittle of Whitby Seafoods said: "There is a lot of seventies-style nostalgia around from recipes on Bake Off to Danny Baker's life story dramatised on the BBC.
"It was an era when interesting new foods were introduced to the nation for the first time and so we remember many of those with fondness."
She added: "But let's face it, while we want to see the best of the 70s make a comeback, we are reminded of the things we'd rather forget too.
"You'll be hard pushed to find anyone going for an avocado-coloured bathroom suite these days."
The research showed that despite avocado being one of the most popular foods today, the colour itself really gets Brits riled – avocado bath suites were top of the list of 70s ‘icons’ that were a complete turn-off with almost halfsaying they were a no-no for the home.
