Golden Globes nominations: Huge Johnny Depp snub leads the Top 5 SHOCKS
Johnny Depp is snubbed as Eddie Redmayne cries all the way to awards season
THE GOLDEN GLOBES nominations were full of surprises and some very SHOCKING omissions this year including massive snubs for Johnny Depp and Tom Hardy.

Hollywood is gearing up for the start of awards season with the Golden Globes nominations announced today.
Not everyone is celebrating though.

Eddie Redmayne may be sobbing all the away to his trophy cabinet but amongst all the jubilation are some major shocks with the omission of heavily-tipped front-runners from the list.
The Golden Globes traditionally act as an early indicator or Oscar voting and a certain pirate of the Caribbean must be feeling rather shipwrecked right now.

Golden Globes nominations: Huge Johnny Depp snub leads the Top 5 SHOCKS
Johnny Depp in Black Mass

1. WHERE'S JOHNNY?
This is the major story of the nominations. Yes, even more than Lady Gaga getting an acting nomination for American Horror Story...
Johnny Depp was heavily fancied to be duking it out with Leonardo DiCaprio and Eddie Redmayne at the Oscars.
His jaw-dropping transformation into mob boss Whitey Bulger had generated early awards buzz and looked set to restore some faith in a career sorely missing any recent hits or highlights apart from the unsinkable Pirates franchise.
Depp's omissions from the Golden Globes shortlists is telling, since TEN actor are nominated across the Drama and Musicals and Comedy categories, as opposed to only five at the Oscars.
Let's hope he doesn't use any gangster tricks from his terrifying turn in Black Mass to vent his frustration...

Tom Hardy as the Kray twins in Legend

2. KRAYS-EE TOM HARDY OMISSION
Gangsters are clearly not in favour this year.
Forget Depp's stirling efforts in Black Mass, Brit bruiser Tom Hardy played not one but TWO tough guys in the same film and still missed out.
Tom Hardy's heavyweight turn as both Kray twins in Legend was a tour-de-force but goes unrecognised by teh Golden Globes voters.
There was also hope that he might receive another chance for his menacing and downright nasty performance in The Revenant, but it seems you need to be mauled and possibly sexually molested by a grizzly bear to get a nod these days.
Speaking of which...

3. GRIZZLY LOVE
Leonardo DiCaprio has received yet another nomination, this time for his role in The Revenant.
Forget the acting, this brutal film looks like an endurance test for all concerned.
On-set rumours of walk-outs by the crew over the punishing snow-bound conditions and shooting schedule are shocking enough but the battering DiCaprio takes throughout means he surely deserves some kind of award for simply surviving the shoot.
But this has all been overshadowed by an internet explosion when some early preview audiences thought that DiCaprio was raped by a grizzly bear in one particularly harrowing scene.

4. MAD MAX MADNESS
Science fiction rarely does well at awards season, but Mad Max has beaten the odds.
Mad Max:Fury Road has picked up twe nominations in major categories.
As well as a nod for Best Film: Drama, the post-apocalyptic blockbuster also earned a hugely well-deserved Best Director nomination for series creator George Miller.
Even so, there is still disappointment that Charlize Theron's barn-storming performance as Imperator Furiosa was overlooked.

5. ROCKY ROAD TO SUCCESS
Sylvester Stallone has been nominated for Best Actor In A Supporting Role in a boxing film.
Nope, not Rocky 28.
This time around Stallone does play an ex-boxer but he left the knucle-busting to young Michael Jordan in boxing flick Creed.
Nostalgic affection may swing him some votes, but we doubt he's heading for a knock-out here.
Brit stars Mark Rylance in Bridge of Spies and Idris Elba in Beast of No Nation are the heavy-weight favourites in this category.
