THOUSANDS of people across the globe were unwrapping Apple products on Christmas morning, new statistics have revealed.
Apple dominated Christmas morning across the globe.
iPhones, iPads and iPods from the hugely successful Cupertino company accounted for almost half of new mobile device activations over the festive period – some 49.1 per cent.
That's slightly down on last year, when Apple devices made up 51.3 per cent of all new mobile devices activated around Christmas.
Elsewhere, Samsung devices were responsible for 19.8 per cent of new activations, Nokia devices made up two per cent, and Xiaomi devices were 1.5 per cent.
The latest statistics comes courtesy of mobile analytics firm Flurry, which measured smart device activations and app downloads from some 780,000 apps it tracked between December 19 to December 25.
Larger-screened devices – or phablets – like the Apple iPhone 6S Plus have increased in popularity within the last year, according to the data.
The 5.5inch smartphone now accounts for some 27 per cent of new device activations, up from just four per cent in 2013 and 13 per cent in 2014.
However during that same time-frame, full-sized tablets have dropped in popularity, now accounting for a meagre nine per cent of activations in 2015.
Medium-sized smartphones, like the 4.7-inch iPhone 6 and iPhone 6S, were by far the most popular Apple product over this holiday period, making up 65 per cent of all new devices activated around Christmas.
In order of popularity, the 4.7inch iPhone is followed by full-sized tablets, phablets and then smaller tablets, like the iPad mini.
For comparison, only 35 per cent of Android devices activated were medium-sized smartphones, while half of new Android devices activated around Christmas were phablets.
According to Flurry, customers downloaded 2.2 times as many apps on Christmas when compared to the average day.
This is true for both the Apple App and Android Google Play Store, the analytics firm's data revealed.
