Raymond Verheijen has once again questioned Arsene Wenger's training methods |
FORMER Wales assistant coach Raymond Verheijen has once again attacked Arsene Wenger following the latest injury blow to his Arsenal squad.
Right-back Hector Bellerin is ruled out of tonight's Champions League clash with what Wenger described as a "small groin problem".
The young Spaniard joins a growing injury list at Arsenal which already includes the likes of Aaron Ramsey, Theo Walcott, Alex Oxlade-Chamberlain and Jack Wilshere.
Last month, Verheijen suggested there is an underlying problem with the way Arsenal players train and Wenger hit back saying: "This guy looks like he knows absolutely everything. I am amazed that he knows more than all our physios and all our doctors.
"I trust my medical staff to do well and my coaching staff to do the fitness planning very well.
"I can only invite you one day to see what work is done behind (the scenes). We have some players who are more injury-prone than others, but we are very well organised on that front.
"We have to analyse every single case and every single exercise, but also I think you have to not over-analyse when players are injured."
But today, Verheijen responded saying Wenger is in denial if he thinks the injury problems are simply due to players being "injury prone".
Over five tweets, he said: "Here we go again! Yet another muscle injury for Arsenal. Bellerin misses tonight's Bayern game due to a groin injury.
"Within the space of 2 weeks the Arsenal players Ramsey, Walcott, Oxlade-Chamberlain & Bellerin have picked up muscle injuries. Who's next?
"This guy will probably choose denial & put responsibility outside himself again by labelling Bellerin 'injury prone'
"Or maybe he will repeat again he trusts his medical staff although they have nothing to do with causing injuries. They only cure injuries.
"Do players get injured because they are injury prone or do players become injury prone because of injury after injury due to overtraining?"
