How to remove French flag from your Facebook profile picture
Facebook users are having trouble removing the French flag filter from their profile pictures
FACEBOOK users are struggling to remove the French flag filter from their social media profile pictures, but here's the fix.

In the wake of the devastating terror attacks in Paris, Facebook allowed users to overlay the French flag across their profile picture to pay tribute to the 129 people who died.
Users were able to superimpose red, white and blue stripes across their existing photograph by clicking on the "customise your profile picture" option.
The hugely popular US social network actively encouraged people to customise their pictures to "support France and the people of Paris."

When customising their profile picture, Facebook users are given the option to let the French flag expire after a day, a week, a month – or last forever.
However users who set a longer time limit are now struggling to disable the tribute to France.
Unfortunately, the only other way to remove the overlay is to simply pick your previous profile picture.
Navigate to your profile page on Facebook, hover over your profile picture and click the "Update Profile Picture" option which appears.

This lets users pick a previous photograph, without the overlaid French flag filter.
Some users have also complained the filter does not remove itself automatically, even after the time limit has expired.
"This is something that Facebook should be fixing," one user blasted on the social network's support page.
"We had a choice of how long to leave the flag 'on' and its not working. Pretty annoyed.
"I shouldn't have to do anything, should have been automatic!"

Another user complained about the same issue, posting: "I had it for 'one day' and its still there ... cannot remove it, very frustrated ..."
"I set the time limit to one hour at around 7 am and the flag is still there?" another Facebook user complained on its support pages.
Following the terrorist attacks, Facebook also activated its Safety Check feature.

Alongside the profile picture tribute, Facebook also rolled out its Safety Check feature for Paris
The clever safety function – which the Californian firm first introduced after the Nepal earthquake, back in April – allows users to check and account for friends and family in an affected area.
Users can also update their Facebook friends that they are safe.
Speaking about the feature, Zuckerberg previously said: "Over the last few years there have been many disasters and crises where people have turned to the Internet for help.
"Each time, we see people use Facebook to check on their loved ones and see if they're safe.
"Connecting with people is always valuable, but these are the moments when it matters most.
"Safety Check is our way of helping our community during natural disasters and gives you an easy and simple way to say you’re safe and check on all your friends and family in one place."
