FOLLICLE FEAR: UK men are more afraid of losing their hair than losing their job |
FORGET the fast car and supermodel wife, a thick head of hair will keep men happy according to new research.
Hair loss is not taken lightly by British men.
According to a new study, the fear of follicle failure is so strong that it eclipses job loss, their partner's infidelity and their entire internet search being made public.
The research, from new haircare range MR., reveals that over half of Britons would sacrifice a range of luxuries for a full head of hair, including a promotion and a supermodel wife.
Tresses are top of mind for gents, with 30 per cent thinking about losing their hair at least once a day.
One in ten men lose sleep over the thought of losing hair |
Over one in ten even admit to losing sleep over the issue.
In fact, the thought of thinning on top causes so much anxiety that over half (52 per cent) of men would forego a sports car and over one in ten would sacrifice sex for six months to avoid it.
The concern stems from appearance, says the study.
One fifth (20 per cent) of respondents think that thinning hair will make them less attractive, and a quarter (25 per cent) are worried that it makes them look older than they are.

Psychologist Emma Kenny said: “Men’s self-esteem is often underestimated and baldness is considered an issue they should simply accept… Losing (their hair) can be stressful and have a significant impact on body image in a culture that views hair as a sign of youth and good health.
"It's important that men start to feel at ease discussing a subject that affects so many of them yet still remains a taboo topic of conversation.”
As for treatment, some men (13 per cent) believe the only solution to hair loss is to shave it all off.
While others (seven per cent) would consider a hair transplant or just pretend it’s not happening.
Men are more concerned with losing their hair than infidelity |
Award-winning hairdresser Jamie Stevens, who helped formulate the MR. Range, said: “Hair loss is a big concern and causes fear and anxiety for a lot of men, whether they care to admit it or not.
"As someone who has thinning hair, I hope that getting men talking about the issue will stop them suffering in silence whilst also addressing how prolific and serious it can be for self-esteem and confidence.”
MR. is available from Boots stores with an RRP of £10.
