THE Taken King's global launch is just a few days away and Bungie have set off to the real world for Destiny's latest adventure.
To celebrate the global launch of Destiny: The Taken King on September 15, Bungie recruited the help of UK YouTubers Alex Noon and James White to take part in a real-life stunt inspired by the new abilities featured in the expansion.
Attending a special Guardian Training Camp in London, Arekkz and Wizzite took on the Warlock Stormcaller ligtening challenge wearing special Voltrex suits connected to a Tesla Coil.
Three quarters of a million volts of electricity were at their finger tips, mimicing the Stormcallers who will be able to directly manipulating Arc energy to channel and chain into a new weapon against the Taken enemies.
Arekkz and Wizzite also had the chance to wield a flaming metal hammer, like the Titan Sunbreaker, and posed with a glowing, ‘void-energy’ bow for the chance to play the role as a Hunter Nightstalker.
MTFX - a British special effects company - staged the event, helping to bring Destiny's new story campaign to life.
Players will get their chance to wield the new in-game abilities next week and will have access to three new Guardian subclasses, along with with new supers.
Warlocks will harness the power of an electric storm, Hunters will carry a bow formed from gravitational void energy, and Titans will summon a flaming hammer that can sear their adversaries from a range or deliver a devastating melee impact.
To get the chance to to play The Taken King from launch, fans on Xbox and PlayStation platforms need to download the new Destiny 2.0 update, weighing in at around 17GB.
Destiny's new patch aims to rebalance certain weapons and armours, while also adding new features like the Mercy Rule, which will help end one-sided Crucible matches.
Senior Designer Andrew Weldon, explains: "When the Mercy Rule hits, Shaxx will call out the end of the match.
"We immediately disable join in progress to prevent any additional players from joining the game (if anyone has dropped already) and reset the game clock to :10 seconds. After those 10 seconds, the match will end normally. All players will receive their end of match rewards and return to matchmaking.
The version of the Mercy Rule you will play in 2.0. is enabled for all team playlists except Elimination and Trials of Osiris. The low-scoring, round-based nature of Elimination is not well suited for this rule; a 4-0 match will often end pretty quickly and still offers comeback opportunity.
"Rumble, by way of free for all gameplay, is also much less sensitive to blowout games as everyone has multiple targets and the score limit is in the ballpark of only around ~25 kills.
The 2.0 Mercy Rule check is a very simple query that is good at identifying games that get out of hand early, but not necessarily games that pull away late. You may in some cases still find yourself in games where you feel like it should have triggered.
"We will, as always, continue monitoring our UR data as well as player feedback to determine how we can continue to improve it and make it more accurate in the future."
