PlayStation VR will launch with at least ten game, Sony has confirmed |
PLAYSTATION VR is set for launch next year and Sony have started talking about what kind of pricing and gaming lineup fans can expect on release.
Having revealed earlier this year that they planned to keep the pricing down as low as possible, PlayStation president Andrew House has given an update on what the virtual reality headset will look like for PS4 users in 2016.
During an interview, House told Bloomberg that users can expect to pay the same price that they would for 'a new gaming platform' leaving the retail cost ambiguous.
It could mean that PlayStation VR will come in at the £300 mark, the price a PS4 bundle is currently listed at, or possibly higher.
It will make for an interesting VR headset battlefield, with the Oculus Rift and Vive VR headsets requiring a gaming PC for best performance, leaving the door open for some interesting marketing maneuvering.
House also gave a rundown on the number of titles that fans can expect at launch, revealing that ten titles have been confirmed, with the VR platform a new tempting place for developers to work on.
“VR rewrites the rulebook on how you can create games,” House said.
“You’re seeing a large amount of interest and work happening among smaller teams, because it’s possible to create something in VR that is very simple but still very magical.”
Concerns have been raised in the past that VR technology would always appear more impressive at an exhibition but not actually provided the same feeling at home.
A fancy gimmick that was argued to provide full immersion into the game but instead resulted in temporary fascination followed by boredom and dust? It is still unclear how successful VR will prove with fans, although many who have experienced have also been mightily impressed.
Like 3D movies, health issues have also been raised, including the threat of motion sickness arising after using a VR headset, with all the major hardware developers pledging to remove this problem before launching their final products.
