METAL GEAR Solid 5 publisher, Konami has revealed its next move while the Phantom Pain continues to break new ground for the series.
It appears the curtain has fallen on the Hideo Kojima era but that doesn't necessarily mean the end for the popular series.
The iconic game's director has left the company to form his own, Kojima Productions, which will release its first title exclusively on the PS4.
Rumours have swirled around Konami’s plans for their top IP, with many fans concerned that the Phantom Pain could be the last AAA instalment in the series.
However, the publisher appears to be taken steps to get the ball rolling on a new Metal Gear title.
Development staff are currently being recruited by Konami in connection with a “New Metal Gear” in both Tokyo and LA.
The Job Listings page states that Konami are looking for candidates with: “Experience in high-end game development, planning. Boundless imagination, and the capacity for exciting new ideas. A strong passion toward game creation. The communication skills to effectively communicate your ideas.”
None of this gives away much about what kind of game Konami have in mind, could we a follow up to Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance, or perhaps a full blown reimagining of Kojima’s earlier work?
In other news, the Phantom Pain has continued to prove its worth by being placed at the top of Metacritic’s game-of-the-year chart.
Based on 10 professional reviews, the Phantom Pain beat The Witcher 3 and Bloodborne to the top, scoring a 95 out of 100.
It should be noted that both titles beat Metal Gear Solid 5 when it came to user scores, 7.1
A message on the site explains: “Just 9 console releases achieved a 90+ score. And two of those were expansion packs, while two more were ports from other platforms.
“So the list of "new" great console titles this year is a short one: Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain (on both PS4 and XB1),Bloodborne (PS4), and The Witcher 3: Wild Hunt(PS4/XB1).
“Of those, Phantom Pain received the highest individual score (for its XB1 version), making it our official game of the year for 2015.”
