ISLAMIC STATE extremists plotted the terrorist attacks in Paris using WhatsApp and other encrypted apps, officials briefed on the investigation have revealed.</div>

Religious extremists linked to the attacks in Paris used encrypted apps to hide details of their plan, officials familiar with the ongoing investigation revealed to CNN.</div>

This is the first time investigators have confirmed encrypted messaging apps were used to plot the devastating terror attacks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Officials have named WhatsApp and Telegram amongst the apps linked to the Islamic State terrorists.</div>

Both apps use end-to-end encryption to keep users' conversations, images, video and audio messages private. <a href="http://shr.gs/4GXqjID">Telegram has previously been linked with Islamic State activity</a>.</div>

On the night of Friday November 13th, a series of co-ordinated terrorist attacks across Paris killed 130 people.</div>

Gunmen – each fitted with a suicide vest – and affiliated with the so-called Islamic State, also referred to as ISIS or Daesh, targeted six different locations in the French capital city.</div>

Amongst the targets was the Stade de France, where president Francois Hollande was watching the national team play a friendly match against Germany.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Terrorists also attacked restaurants, cafes and the Bataclan theatre, where rock band Eagles of Death Metal were performing to a sell-out crowd.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Some 368 people were injured in the gun and bomb attacks.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Officials had previously confirmed they had found encrypted apps installed on the mobile phones recovered from the crime scenes, but would not confirm whether the apps had been used to plan the attacks.</div>

However those close to the investigation have now confirmed the terrorists used the encrypted messengers to communicate for a period before the attacks.</div>

<a href="http://ondata.io/" rel="nofollow" target="_blank">British start-up OnData.io</a> has spent the last year designing and fine-tuning an algorithm that detects ISIS propaganda at scale, in real time.</div>

And now the impressive online content filtering tool believes its platform can identify those at risk of radicalisation based solely on their Internet history.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Unlike traditional Internet monitoring tools which rely either on lists of bad websites or simple decision rules to flag undesirable content, OnData.io uses advances in artificial intelligence to infer intent, the London firm claims.</div>

"This is crucial in the fight against terrorism, as jihadi content is often fast changing and ambiguous in nature," OnData.io has confirmed.</div>

ISIS supporters have warned of a imminent Paris-style terror attack in Moscow – using a publicly available wifi network for underground train passengers.</div>

Islamic State supporters have issued a chilling warning to the city of Moscow using a publicly available wifi network on the underground train system, according to Russian media.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
The wifi network is available across the Moscow underground rail network and is named, "<strong>Paris was yesterday, Moscow is today</strong>".</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
When users successfully log-on to the network, they are presented with a jet-black Islamic State, or ISIS, flag and another warning about an imminent threat to the Russian capital city.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
It is believed the public wifi network was renamed earlier this week, following a successful hack.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">

Train passengers alerted the authorities about the wifi network, which was spotted on the north-south Kaluzhsko-Rizhskaya line.</div>
<div style="text-align: justify;">
Local man Denis Savin, told Russian news website <em>LifeNews</em>: "I took my tablet and tried to connect to the WiFi but instead of the authorisation page I saw a black flag with an Arabic sign and words in Russian above it.</div>

Amongst its features, the popular apps promises end-to-end encryption and the ability to make your messages self-destruct after they have been read.</div>

The hacking group has also closed down 5,500 Twitter accounts.</div>

However encrypted services which offer self-destructing messages – like the one recommend by ISIS-associated accounts – are extremely difficult to monitor.</div>

CIA director John Brennan told a security conference in Washington earlier this week: "There are a lot of technological capabilities that are available right now that make it exceptionally difficult, both technically as well as legally, for intelligence and security services to have the insight they need to uncover [terrorist activities].</div>

"I do think this is a time for particularly Europe, as well as here in the United States, for us to take a look and see whether or not there have been some inadvertent or intentional gaps that have been created in the ability of intelligence and security services to protect the people that they are asked to serve."</div>
