CHELSEA are poised to compete the £3.5million signing of New York Red Bulls defender Matt Miazga in the next 24 hours.
The USA international passed a medical yesterday and is set to put pen to paper on a four-year deal at Stamford Bridge.
Miazga is highly rated in Major League Soccer and Chelsea have been watching the centre-back for some time.
The 20-year-old joined the Red Bulls Academy in 2009 and has progressed through the ranks at the club, making his first-team debut in 2013.
And he will leave the MLS team with less than a year remaining on his current contract.
Blues boss Guus Hiddink admitted today he is looking forward to working with Miazga in training.
Hiddink said: "We're not rushing, but he will one of the squad members for the future.
"A young guy stepping up. We'll see what he is capable of in training - let's see if he can adapt to the high demands of this club and the Premier League."
The defender will provide competition for John Terry, Kurt Zouma and Gary Cahill, who revealed this week he was considering his future at the club after not getting enough game time.
