JOSE MOURINHO could replace Louis van Gaal at Manchester United, predicts Paul Merson.

 

The Portuguese was let go by Chelsea this afternoon following a string of poor results in the Premier League.

The Blues have already lost nine league games this season and are struggling in 16th place in the table.

 

However, despite his poor form in this campaign, Sky Sports pundit Merson still thinks he could attract attention from United.

Van Gaal has similarly come under fire in recent weeks, coming to a head when Wolfsburg booted them out of the Champions League.

 

And Merson thinks the Dutchman will be looking over his shoulder now that Mourinho is potentially available to the United board.

"If it doesn't go well for Man United in the next week or two, I think they might look and think, 'one of the best managers in the world of football is available. Let's get him'".
