It was a Halloween horror show for the Baggies as Salomon Rondon put them ahead West Brom ahead, while Rickie Lambert added a late penalty.
Vardy is top of the scoring charts with 11 league goals and his eighth on the bounce, which put Leicester 3-1 up and as good as sealed their sixth win of the campaign.
Salomon Rondon opened the scoring for West Brom |
The breakaway goal meant he equalled Daniel Sturridge’s league record and he now trails only Manchester United legend Ruud van Nistelrooy, who notched ten on the bounce.
It was a forgettable afternoon for West Brom boss Tony Pulis after he saw his team capitulate to a 3-2 loss at home for the second time in three games.
The Leicester fans’ chants of ‘We are staying up’ soon became more ambitious when they switched to ‘We are all going on the European tour.’ It is a good time to be a Foxes fan.
It was a scrappy, cagey first half hour until, that is, West Brom took the lead, which really sparked a sleeping game into life.
Stephane Sessegnon’s corner was met by an inch-perfect glancing header from Rondon after he escaped his marker Danny Simpson. Kasper Schmeichel had no chance.
West Brom started the brightest after the break and were denied a possible second when Simpson’s last-gasp block on a McClean shot snubbed out any danger.
Leicester levelled in the 57th minute through the lively Mahrez, after West Brom midfielder Claudio Yacob was unable to clear the ball sufficiently.
The ball found its way to Albrighton whose hanging cross from the left was volleyed in from close range by the Algeria international after he lost his marker, Chris Brunt.
Adventurous Leicester refused to sit on a point and instead sniffed all three. And Mahrez didn’t disappoint.
He doubled their lead with another volley from an Albrighton delivery, this time the ball came in from the right and he fired home with his left.
He may well have been offside when the ball came in but Leicester rode their luck all afternoon.
Robert Huth might have conceded two penalties on another day but his heavy treatment of Gareth McAuley and Darren Fletcher either side of halftime was deemed fair by the referee.
Riyad Mahrez struck twice for the visitors |
And to rub further salt into West Brom’s wounds, Vardy added a third with a breakaway goal that should have killed off the game.
Vardy played the ball into Danny Drinkwater, before receiving it back and then running at the West Brom goal with pace and finishing clinically.
Just as Leicester’s fans thought it was game over, Albion did finally win a penalty when Callum McManaman was kicked by fellow substitute Nathan Dyer.
Penalty king Lambert converted the spot-kick to set up a tense final six minutes.
