MANCHESTER UNITED have been handed a fitness boost as Michael Carrick's injury is not as bad as first feared.
The 34-year-old was stretchered off during England's 2-0 defeat to Spain last Friday.
"Michael has got a severely twisted ankle which normally means ligament damage," he said.
"We won't know that of course until he's had an X-ray or a scan, but it doesn't look good."
However, the news coming out of Old Trafford is positive, with the club suggesting he will be back sooner than first predicted.
The Telegraph report that United are yet to determine the full extent of the injury, but expect he will be back in action by the end of the month.
Carrick will miss this weekend's Premier League match against Watford, as a result, as well as next Wednesday's Champions League game against PSV Eindhoven.
Despite being rotated with Bastian Schweinsteiger and Morgan Schneiderlin, he has featured in 13 of United’s 20 games in all competitions, starting 10 times.
