iOS 9.1: Apple introduces Middle Finger emoji, UK News App and Live Photo improvements
The free update gives users access to over 150 new emojis including the long-rumoured middle finger
APPLE has finally rolled out iOS 9.1 – and the wait for the middle finger emoji is over.

Apple has rolled out its latest mobile operating system update, dubbed iOS 9.1.
The free update gives users access to over 150 new emoji characters including the hotly-anticipated middle finger.
Many iPhone owners had hoped the rude emoji – alongside a new unicode symbol for unicorn, turkey, lion, taco, burrito and dove – would be bundled alongside iOS 9.

The previous update was rolled out days before the release of the iPhone 6S and iPhone 6S Plus.
Amongst the 150 new emoji included in Apple's stock iOS keyboard is an emoticon for a scorpion, golfer hitting a ball, Vulcan salute, bow and arrow and a 50s-style microphone.
Unfortunately iPhone and iPad owners will only be able to see the new emoji display in messages, emails, tweets and webpages after they have updated their iPhone operating system.
If your recipient is running an older version of iOS, then the new characters will appear as blank spaces, or alien faces.

Apple’s iOS 9.1 update also brings the Cupertino firm's redesigned News app to the UK.
The Newsstand replacement app aggregates news content from a variety of sources, like Flipboard.
If you have the latest iPhone hardware, you will be pleased to know that Apple has tweaked Live Photos, too.
The living images can now detect the motion of your phone so will immediately stop recording when you lower your camera after taking a snap.

iOS 9.1 also bundles updated versions of the stock planet wallpapers, which were first included as options in iOS 9.
Overall stability and security are also improved, so its worth making sure you are up-to-date.
To update your device to iOS 9.1 simply head to Settings > General > Software Update and tap install.
