iPhone 6s Review: 3D Touch is REVOLUTIONARY, but the jury's out on Live Photos
NewsNewsBlog.blogspot.com dishes our definitive verdict on the Apple iPhone 6S
THE Apple iPhone 6s hit UK stores last week – but is it worth the upgrade? NewsNewsBlog.blogspot.com has delved into 3D Touch, Live Photos and 4K video for our definitive verdict on Apple’s latest smartphone.

After the monumental success of Apple’s iPhone 6, the US tech firm is back with a brand-new smartphone.
The iPhone 6s may appear similar on the outside, but under the hood this device is brimming with fabulous new features.
And, with a new speedy processor, upgraded camera and screen that can sense touch, there’s plenty for the Apple faithful to get excited about.
The US tech giant will be hoping to emulate the success story of its iPhone 6, but has it done enough to make the 6s worth the upgrade?
The all-new device arrives in the UK today but NewsNewsBlog.blogspot.com has already taken Apple’s latest phone for a full road test and here’s our definitive verdict.

LOOK & FEEL

Place old and new side-by-side and you won’t think much has changed.
The only real difference in design is that the iPhone 6s is minutely thicker and slightly heavier than its older brother.
Whilst the added weight is noticeable, the payback is that you get a phone that’s stronger and has plenty of extra tech inside.
In fact, the enclosure is made of 7000 Series aluminum – the same grade used in the aerospace industry and it's the strongest alloy ever used in an iPhone.
The iPhone 6s still looks the business and, other than the Galaxy S6 edge, we think it’s the best looking phone on the market.

Sadly, there is one problem with keeping things the same – no one will notice you’ve got the latest iPhone.
Luckily, Apple has released an exclusive 6s colour and, If you want your new purchase to be noticed, you can opt for the all-new Rose Gold case.
The 6s design is unlikely to have iPhone 6 owners rushing to the phone shop, but if you own an older device you’ll be pleased as punch when it arrives in the post.

DISPLAY & 3D Touch

Sadly, there’s no super High Resolution or 4K screen on the iPhone 6s, as Apple is sticking firmly with its Retina HD Display.
With the competition producing some breathtaking smartphone displays some may find it disappointing that Apple hasn’t upgraded its screen.
However, the iPhone 6s does come with one clever feature that its rivals don’t.
The iPhone 6s has 3D Touch technology, which allows you to interact with the phone in a new and intuitive way.

3D Touch brings pressure sensitivity to the Apple iPhone
Press the screen once to open the usual apps, pictures and content.
But tap and press harder on the display and you’ll get access to more menus and options.
3D Touch is without doubt the biggest reason to buy this phone and it’s a definite game-changer

Apple are calling this peek and pop and having put it to the test – it’s a touch of genius.
The new screen also allow Quick Actions which let you do the things you do most often.
You can start a message to your favorite contacts, make a quick call or instantly bring up the camera to snap a selfie.
Once you start using it you’ll wonder how you ever coped without the new feature.
Sending messages, checking emails and even playing music is made so much easier via 3D Touch and expect others to follow Apple’s lead on their next phones.
Whilst its arch-rivals have gone for eye-popping resolution, Apple has decided to try something different and it’s a feature we guarantee you’ll love.
3D Touch is without doubt the biggest reason to buy this phone and it’s a definite game-changer.

CAMERA

The iPhone 6s has a new 12-megapixel iSight snapper and it’s superb.
To test how much better it really is, we put it up against the older iPhone 6 and there’s a noticeable difference between the two.
Pictures are sharper with more detailed images being taken by the new phone.

Apple has increased the rear camera from 8MP to 12MP and added 4K capture

Apple has added the ability to film in UHD 4K using the rear camera
File sizes are also bigger which allows you to zoom into images once they’ve been snapped.
The older iPhone 6 already has an excellent camera and this upgrade will make your pictures look even better.
Apple has also included an update to its front-facing selfie camera, which now takes better pictures and includes a clever flash in the form of insanely bright Retina Display.
This certainly helps shots in low light and is an improvement over older iPhone models.
Slo-mo video also gets an upgrade and your moments of glory can now be filmed in 1080p at 120 fps.

Finally, video gets a huge upgrade on the iPhone 6s with the ability to shoot in 4K.
This ultra HD footage is impressive with videos appearing pin-sharp and packed with detail.
However, it won’t suit everyone.
Filming in 4K produces massive file sizes, which aren’t that easy to deal with and could cause your device to fill up fast.
4K is a nice addition, but, for most, should probably be used sparingly.

LIVE PHOTOS

The iPhone 6s camera has another neat trick up its sleeve in the form of Live Photos.
With this function turned on, the iPhone snaps a small piece of video either side of your pictures.
This can be replayed with a tap on the image, making your photos come to life.
It’s a nice bonus feature but we’re not convinced it’s a game-changer.

Apple’s Live Photos take a snapshot of footage before and after the image
Currently these pics can only be viewed on iPhones running iOS 9.
Computers running Apple’s, soon to be released, El Capitan operating system will join the Live Photos party later in the year and Facebook is also said to be planning compatibility.
There is another minor issue with Live Photos as each snap uses a tiny amount of extra data.
This probably won’t affect 64GB or 128GB iPhone owners, but if you’ve opted for a 16GB phone you might want to watch how many Live Photos you’re taking.
Live Photos is fun but we still feel it’s a bit of a gimmick.

BATTERY
It might sound like an odd decision but Apple has actually made the battery smaller in their new phones.
However, reducing the size of the power source doesn't appear to have made much difference to its life.
You'll stil be fine for a day without going near a plug, but don't expect days of power on one charge.
The iPhone 6s battery does enough to get by, but some of the competition are perfoming better and there's still room for improvement from Apple.

SPEED

Apple has squeezed their new A9 processor inside the 6s and boy, this thing is fast.
Speed tests reveal it’s around 30% quicker than the iPhone 6 and you certainly notice the difference.

3D Touch and camera improvements mean the iPhone 6S is the best iPhone to date
Everything you do feels slick and you get the feeling the 6s won’t struggle with anything thrown at it.
NewsNewsNewsBlog.blogspot.com ran several tests with the 6s and its predecessor side-by-side and there's a considerable difference.
Even opening simple games such as Angry Birds is around seven seconds quicker on the iPhone 6s.
The new phone is an absolute joy to use and if you’re upgrading from a much older device you won’t know what’s hit you.

MEMORY

Apple's base iPhone will come with just 16GB of memory and it's simply not enough.
With 4K videos and Live Photos, adopters of the 16GB model are going to quickly fill their phones.
There’s a difference of £80 between 16GB and 64GB and paying the extra is worth every penny.
Our advice is simple – do not buy the 16GB model if you can afford the bigger options.

EXTRAS

Apple has upgraded their fingerprint scanner and it’s now even quicker than before.
In fact, it’s so fast your finger can hardly keep up with it.
The iPhone 6s also has a stronger screen, which should give it more chance of surviving a fall and there’s faster Wi-Fi tucked inside which doubles the speeds of surfing the web.
Sadly, it’s still not waterproof and there’s still no ability to charge the device wirelessly – maybe that will finally arrive on the iPhone 7.

VERDICT

With sales already through the roof the iPhone 6s is once again the phone to beat.
It still looks great, is super-slick to use and has a brilliant new camera.
However, it’s 3D Touch that really sets this device apart from its rivals.
Within minutes of getting it in your hands this new touch tech feels like something you’ve been using all your life and it brings a whole new perspective to interacting with your phone.
It’s a shame the screen resolution isn’t higher and battery life still lags behind some other smartphones, but these issues won’t affect your enjoyment of this phone.
The iPhone 6s offers many improvements over its predecessor and with 3D Touch, 4K video recording and Apple’s incredible new A9 processor this is not a minor update.
If you’re due an upgrade and love all things Apple this is now the best iPhone money can buy.
