REAL MADRID will not bid for David De Gea in January, insists president Florentino Perez.
The Bernabeu club were within minutes of landing Manchester United goalkeeper De Gea on transfer deadline day - only for the move to fall through.
They had agreed a transfer fee for the 24-year-old and even threw current number one Keylor Navas into the bargain.
But failure to complete the paperwork in time - with both clubs blaming the other - meant De Gea will be kept on at Old Trafford for the final year of his contract.
And Perez has revealed that they will not seek to capture De Gea once the window opens again in January.
"We will certainly not sign De Gea in January," he told radio station Cadena COPE.
"Madrid did its job as best it could. We did not get there on time because Manchester does not have the necessary experience to tackle these things on the last day, as happened with (Fabio) Coentrao."
Perez's mention of Coentrao is in reference to United's failed loan bid for the left-back on deadline day in 2013.
Bosses at Old Trafford were unable to land Leighton Baines from Everton that summer and made a last-ditch attempt to secure Portugal ace Coentrao.
But, like the De Gea deal, the move fell through - with Perez claiming their United counterparts failed to get the paperwork signed off in time.
