KONAMI have given an update on Metal Gear Solid 5's DLC story status and clarified some of what is to come in Metal Gear Solid Online.
For those fans who were looking to revisit Camp Omega in the Phantom Pain and now suspect that it could be part of a new expansion plot plan, we have some bad news for you.
Metal Gear Solid director Hideo Kojima said a few things about the location last year that appear to have been misinterpreted.
At the time, Kojima stated that fans would be able to go back to the site, explaining: "People who own GZ will be able to play a different mission(s) at Camp Omega.
"That’s the current plan. There’s something of a big feature involved. It’s never been done in the games industry before. So I can’t go into detail about it, but I think when you experience it for yourselves you’ll be surprised. It’s something that’s only possible through video games.”
However, it has now been confirmed by Konami that the only way to revisit Camp Omega is to play Metal Gear Solid Online or to watch the cutscenes in the Phantom Pain.
Community manager Robert Allan Peer revealed the news, along with the announcement that there is currently no plans for story DLC content to be released.
Answering fan questions on Twitter, Pee clarified: "I don't have any particular story content to announce, no.
"[Camp Omega] it's one of the mission areas in Metal Gear Online, you don't play there like in Africa/Afghanistan but events from GZ are shown in single player."
Camp Omega will be listed under the name Black Site in Metal Gear Online and includes the description: "The infamous US military base nine years after the events of "METAL GEAR SOLID V: GROUND ZEROES". It contains a multi-level base with mostly flat and spacious surrounding areas."
MGO will include at least three battle missions at launch, along with classes that players can select. Each class has various characteristics and abilities, including Scout, Enforcer and infiltrator.
It follows the news of an alleged rebuff from Konami over the recent rumours that the publisher is set to abandon triple-A game title production on consoles, leaving just the Pro Evolution Soccer franchise.
