JOHN ALDRIDGE admits Liverpool fans have turned against manager Brendan Rodgers but is backing him to turn things around.
Rodgers has come under intense pressure after the Reds' stuttering start to the season.
Bookmakers are backing the boss for the chop, while numerous replacement including Jurgen Klopp have been mentioned.
The Anfield chief claims he does not fear for his job and Aldridge believes he can oversee a turn in fortunes by taking a leaf out of Manchester United legend Sir Alex Ferguson's book.
“You want continuity. Man United got where they did because they had Fergie there for 20-odd years.
“The longer you keep a manager, the better nick your club is going to be in, so let’s hope he can turn it around. It is going to be hard for him, but it’s been done before.
“Alex Ferguson nearly got the sack at one given time. It can be done, so let’s hope he can do it.”
Despite pressure coming from the stands,. Aldridge has seen enough to suggest the has the support of his players.
However, Liverpool face Aston Villa at Anfield today and the 57-year-old says the fans won't stand for another disappointing display.
“The players are actually playing for the manager,” he added.
“They are trying their damnedest to get over the line and win games but it is just not happening.
"You get situations like this where it just doesn’t happen for you. “
“If he struggles today, the knives are going to come out and it is going to be all over the papers on Monday.
“It has come to that time now where he desperately needs a win.”
