John Stones handed in a transfer request at Everton this summer
JOHN STONES will push for a £38million release clause when he begins talks with Everton over a new contract, according to reports.

The centre-half, 21, but the Toffees held firm on their refusal to sell.
After seeing three offers rejected by the club, Stones handed in a transfer request to try and force through a move.

But Toffees bosses wouldn't budge and they snubbed a final £34m bid from the Premier League champions before deadline day.
It was understood the club were seeking a minimum £40m transfer fee for their star man - and even then they were not keen on selling him.

They will now seek to lock England defender Stones down to a long-term contract to fend off suitors in upcoming windows, claim the Daily Mail.
He currently earns £30,000-a-week but is expected to command at least double that amount when talks begin over a new deal.

According to the report, he will agree to the new terms so long as a clause is inserted ensuring he can leave at a set price.
It is unknown if Chelsea will go back in for Stones come January but Manchester United were also keen on the player over the summer months and are reportedly considering their options, as are Real Madrid.
