Arsenal to appeal Gabriel's red card after altercation with Chelsea's Diego Costa
Gabriel was shown red after retaliating to Diego Costa's challenge on Laurent Koscielny
ARSENAL have confirmed they will appeal Gabriel's red card received for an altercation with Chelsea's Diego Costa.
 
Tensions flared between the two following Costa's challenge on Laurent Koscielny, for which he has .
However, despite the ruling the Gunners have still confirmed they have every intention of appealing Gabriel's dismissal.
 
A statement on their club website read: "The club can confirm that it is appealing wrongful dismissal and the three-match ban given to Gabriel."
Gabriel reacted furiously to being shown red and has been charged by the FA over his behaviour following the sending off, which could see his three-match ban extended.
 
Both clubs, meanwhile, have been charged with failing to control their players, whilst Santi Cazorla also received a warning following his conduct after being sent off.
Costa has been charged with violent conduct for the challenge on Koscielny which was not seen by the match officials but caught on video.
