WINDOWS 10 is the world's second most popular desktop operating system, according to a new report.

Microsoft is enjoying enormous success with its next-generation operating system, Windows 10.
Just eight months into its life-cycle, Windows 10 already accounts for an impressive 12.6 per cent of the global market share, according to the latest numbers from Dublin-based web traffic analysis tool, StatCounter.
That means Windows 10 is the world's second most popular desktop operating system, behind Windows 7. The latter still holds a staggering 43.7 per cent market share, while the controversial Windows 8.1 holds some 10.3 per cent.
Windows 10 is also the Microsoft operating system with the fastest adoption rates, with some 200 million activations across the globe by December 2015.

In fact, in its first month alone, Windows 10 stormed to a 4.8 per cent market share. Windows 7 only managed 4 per cent in the same period.
Microsoft is offering customers with genuine copies of Windows 7 and Windows 8 installed on their machines, the chance to upgrade to its latest OS for free.
This deal, which is due to expire on the anniversary of the release of Windows 10 in July 2016, is likely to have pushed some users to upgrade their PCs.
 
Microsoft has previously stated an ambition to get one billion devices across the globe running Windows 10 within two years of the operating system's release.
