Louis van Gaal spending spree approved by Manchester United board in bid to save season
Van Gaal and assistant Ryan Giggs will be hoping fresh blood can resurrect United's season

The have endured the worst December in the club's history by failing to record a single win, crashing out of the Champions League and picking up only two Premier League points.
And with season threatening to go into a tailspin, the are reporting that the board have accepted that Van Gaal will need to spend big in order to inject some energy into his squad in January.
The transfer window opens on January 2, with a striker at the top of the Dutch manager's list; the Old Trafford outfit have scored only 22 goals in the Premier League this season, while star striker Wayne Rooney has only two to his name.

Lazio's Felipe Anderson seems to be the , with a £35million deal for the Brazilian attacking midfielder said to be 'well down the road'.
However, the dire situation may also force Van Gaal to move some of his summer plans, including a marquee signing such as Gareth Bale, up to January.
But having said that, the 64-year-old believes the year has been on the whole a success for his side.

“When you don’t count December, 2015 was a very good year,” said Van Gaal. “But you can’t do that, because a year has 12 months.
“Our problem is not to dominate, but to score. Goals are the most important thing. There is no magic. It’s looking at what has happened and what can improve, as a team but also as individuals.
“This is not the first club where I have had a bad period. I’ve had bad periods at all my clubs, but I have to say the best fans are here.

“In such a difficult period, they are applauding the performance of the players and that’s fantastic. But still we need to win, because we want to be at the top of the league and not in the middle.
“We have to get points, otherwise the gap is too big.”
