According Forza Italian Football, Manchester United are preparing a £33million bid for Lazio’s Brazilian midfielder Felipe Anderson.
Louis van Gaal has turned his attention to the 22-year-old with Real Madrid unwilling to sell James Rodriguez, who is thought to be his primary target.
Anderson has scored four goals in 17 appearances for Lazio this term, as well as providing two assists.
Meanwhile, ex-Arsenal forward Charlie Nicholas has urged his former club to sign United’s Michael Carrick as Arsene Wenger continues his January hunt for a holding midfielder.
He told Soccer Saturday: “It makes sense for me to go for someone between the age of 30-32. There are a few about and if I was Arsenal I would go for Carrick.
“I am not saying he would play every week but Carrick could teach as well as play. Someone has to teach these players how to play positions.”

And finally, United have been dealt a blow in their pursuit of Tottenham forward Harry Kane, who has been linked with a £50m move to Old Trafford.
Mauricio Pochettino wants his board to offer the England international a bumper new deal to ward off the Red Devils’ interest going into the January window.
The Spurs boss confirmed after the Boxing Day win at Norwich that the 22-year-old is going nowhere, saying: "There is no price. He is not for sale. No-one can buy him.”
