Louis van Gaal pulls plug on Man United transfer despite clubs agreeing fee
Louis van Gaal has reportedly blocked Guillermo Varela's loan to Italy

Varela, 22, was expected to join the Serie A club on a short-term deal until the end of the season.
The defender has made just three appearances for United this season.

Italian outlet Tuttomercatoweb claim a £460,000 fee had been agreed between the two clubs over the switch.
But manager Van Gaal is reluctant to offload the Uruguayan over fears United's defence is struggling to cope through an injury crisis, claim the Manchester Evening News.

Van Gaal has Luke Shaw, Ashley Young, Antonio Valencia, Phil Jones and Marcos Rojo all currently sidelined.
Options are especially tight at full-back, with Cameron Borthwick-Jackson making his seventh Red Devils appearance in his debut season last weekend.

United have kept just three clean sheets in their last 10 outings and went down 1-0 at home to Southampton last Saturday.
Varela could even get a run out against Derby in the FA Cup fourth round tomorrow night (7.55pm) as United seek to win the trophy for the first time since 2004.
