NEWS NEWS BLOG SPORT brings you the latest news from Anfield.
Jurgen Klopp has told his young Liverpool players that they need to put playing football before earning high wages.
“As a club you cannot make younger players happy,” said Klopp. “That is not possible. It is not the first job. Like in normal life, if it is not easy for you to be happy then no one can help you.
“But what we are trying to create is a situation where younger players know it is not important to get the highest wages in your life in the first year of your career.
“It is more important to get the real education and that is what we want to try.
“For this you always need a lot of things. I like Jerome he is a real talent and if he wants to stay with us no problem. Absolutely no problem. If not, we cannot force it.
“But I know nothing about this situation. I am fine with the situation, but first of all you need young players who want to learn.
“And if we can create a situation where they feel it is the right place to learn then everything is good. That is what we try for next season. We cannot do it now. It is too big a rush, leaving on loan, coming back, that is what we want to do for the future.“
John Aldridge believes Liverpool will sign a new goalkeeper in the summer despite Simon Mignolet's new five-and-a-half-year deal.
Klopp has given the Belgian keeper his support despite some notable mistakes this season and rewarded him with a new contract.
But Aldridge feels Klopp will still want someone to provide pressure on Mignolet.
Aldridge told the Liverpool Echo: "As a shot-stopper he’s tremendous and he’s working hard on the other elements of his game.
"However I don’t think this news will stop Jurgen Klopp looking to bring in another keeper to battle for the number one position in the summer.
Jurgen Klopp wants better judgement from his young players |
"When they brought Adam Bogdan in I thought he would be really good for the club. But what happened at Watford has really hampered him.
"The manager will probably go and get a keeper to fight Mignolet this summer for first choice.
"What this deal for Mignolet does show however is that Jurgen Klopp has belief in him."
Jon Flanagan could make his first Liverpool appearance in nearly two years in Wednesday's FA Cup third-round replay at home to Exeter.
The defender has been out with a knee injury, not playing for the club since the final day of the 2013/14 season.
But he made a return for the under-21 team in recent weeks and the Liverpool Echo say Klopp is considering selecting Flanagan tomorrow night.
