JURGEN KLOPP has told Liverpool’s youngsters they should put their football education before their bank balance.
Liverpool are currently embroiled in contract stand-offs with the likes of Jerome Sinclair, Jordan Rossiter and Joao Teixeira who are all out of contract in the summer.
Jon Flanagan also has six months left to run on his contract and no extension has so far been agreed.
Liverpool are taking a strong stance on contract renewals with youngsters and Klopp said the players should not prioritise a money-spinning deal ahead of their development.
“As a club you cannot make younger players happy,” said Klopp. “That is not possible. It is not the first job. Like in normal life, if it is not easy for you to be happy then no one can help you.
“But what we are trying to create is a situation where younger players know it is not important to get the highest wages in your life in the first year of your career.
“It is more important to get the real education and that is what we want to try.
“For this you always need a lot of things. I like Jerome he is a real talent and if he wants to stay with us no problem. Absolutely no problem. If not, we cannot force it.
“But I know nothing about this situation. I am fine with the situation, but first of all you need young players who want to learn.
“And if we can create a situation where they feel it is the right place to learn then everything is good. That is what we try for next season. We cannot do it now. It is too big a rush, leaving on loan, coming back, that is what we want to do for the future.
“As long as he is here, he is a Liverpool football club player. Absolutely no problem. But I cannot make decisions for them. We can only offer things and first we need to offer education and training and the possibility to work together with the best coaches and the best players we have.
“Then it is up to the players.”
Watford are interested in Sinclair, 19, who scored in the FA Cup stalemate with Exeter 12 days ago.
“There is nothing to say about this,” said Klopp. “Jerome is a very young player. He has skills. He is a very good shooter but physically it is not easy for him in the centre position in a Premier League game against 6ft 4ins defenders to survive.
“But he is very young and he can develop of course.”
Klopp will again pick a young side for the replay with League Two Exeter with the likes of Brad Smith, Connor Randall and Cameron Brannagan set to be involved.
Simon Mignolet looks likely to start in goal because Danny Ward is ineligible having not been registered for the original tie. The same applies to Steven Caulker.
