LIVERPOOL manager Jurgen Klopp has held talks with the agent of Borussia Monchengladbach midfielder Granit Xhaka, according to reports in Germany.
The Swiss international has been linked with a move to Premier League rivals Arsenal, having admitted his dream is to play in England.
He said: “I have a childhood dream, that is the Premier League.
“Whether I play two or a hundred games in England, I would like to eventually make this childhood dream come true.”
And Monchengladbach director of sport Max Eberl also revealed that they could consider selling Xhaka if a tempting offer is received.
But according to German newspaper Bild, Klopp met with Xhaka’s representative Andy Gross in December.
They say Xhaka, who has a contract with Monchengladbach until 2019, is Liverpool’s top target for this summer’s transfer window.
Klopp is said to view Xhaka as an “aggressive leader” and is a big admirer of the player.
Earlier this month, Xhaka talked about taking the number 34 at Arsenal from Francis Coquelin.
He said: ”That was my first professional number at Basel.
“It's even tattooed on my back. I would also like to wear it in the future.
“It was also here in Gladbach, with Amin Younes. And at Arsenal Coquelin has it. I've spoken with him, he would like to take another number!”
