Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp wants to Steven Caulker to ease his defensive crisis

The Reds host Arsene Wenger's table-toppers in the Premier League tomorrow night (8pm).

And Liverpool boss Jurgen Klopp is hoping to have QPR defender Caulker signed, sealed and ready to play against the Gunners.

For Caulker to be eligible to face Arsenal, he needs to be registered by 12 noon today.

Liverpool have made an approach for the 24-year-old, who has spent the first half of the season on loan at Southampton.

Caulker has been at Loftus Road this morning to see if the paperwork can be done in time for him to go up against Olivier Giroud & co.

There is a chance he could train with Liverpool tonight if the move goes through.

Caulker is still a QPR player but has spent this season on loan at Southampton

Liverpool have targeted Caulker as boss Klopp looks to bolster his defensive options.

Caulker joined Ronald Koeman's Southampton for the whole of the season, but a lack of playing time means Liverpool are hoping that arrangement can be cancelled and he can move to Anfield for the remainder of the campaign.

England defender Caulker's last appearance ironically came in Liverpool's 6-1 Capital One Cup victory over Southampton back in November.

The centre-back would provide cover for Klopp who is hoping to have Kolo Toure and Mamadou Sakho available for tomorrow's showdown with leaders Arsenal.

Dejan Lovren is injured, although could yet feature against Manchester United on Sunday, while Martin Skrtel faces a longer rehabilitation from a hamstring problem.

Klopp had looked at Neven Subotic from former club Borussia Dortmund when the injury crisis first erupted, but the Bundesliga side have blocked his departure.

Caulker could play in the Europa League, if Liverpool chose to register him, and the FA Cup although not the replay with Exeter City because he would not have been registered for the original tie.

Former Liverpool manager Brendan Rodgers was keen on Caulker, who was previously at Swansea.
