CHELSEA will hope to sign Brazil striker Alexandre Pato within 48 hours - but it won't be a permanent deal.
The Premier League champions were thought to have agreed a £7million deal for the ace, who is also wanted by Liverpool.
Pato, 26, was reportedly locked in negotiations over a three-year contract at Stamford Bridge last week.
However, it has emerged that the Blues are pushing for a six-month loan deal with the option to buy this summer.
And website Football Insider claim the Blues hope to have Pato's signing wrapped up before their FA Cup fourth-round trip to MK Dons on Sunday (4pm).
Interim head coach Guus Hiddink is keen to land a forward in an effort to bolster his attacking options.
He could offload both Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao before the end of the transfer window.
Former AC Milan striker Pato is an attractive option for Hiddink as he is not cup tied for European competition.
Chelsea face runaway Ligue 1 leaders Paris Saint-Germain in the last-16 of the Champions League.
