MICAH RICHARDS had to be kept apart from angry Aston Villa fans after the top-flight strugglers were held at League Two Wycombe.
The Villa skipper, subbed in the 82nd minute, became involved in a heated exchange with some supporters behind the dug out.
Stewards intervened to stop a potentially dangerous situation getting out of hand.
Later England man Richards appeared to make peace and was heard telling fans: "We are trying for you."
Yet the Premier League basement boys still needed a police escort to the team bus an hour after the third-round tie finished over fears for their safety.
Dejected boss Remi Garde, without a win in ten games, said: "It was brave of Micah to talk to our fans. We understand why they are so angry."
