ANTOINE GRIEZMANN says the faith shown in him from manager Diego Simeone has convinced him to remain at Atletico Madrid - despite reported interest from Chelsea.
Griezmann, 24, has been linked with a late January move to Stamford Bridge.
The France international has scored 20 goals this season, reportedly attracting the eye of Barcelona as well.
Atletico are thought to have slapped a £75million valuation on the player in an effort to deter suitors.
But Griezmann says Simeone's backing has strengthened his commitment to Madrid.
“When the boss told the press that I’m such an important player, it made me want to stay even more," he said.
"I wasn’t looking for another team or anything, but now I think about it even less."
Chelsea's pursuit of Griezmann reportedly stems from their need for goals up front.
The Blues are expected to offload both Loic Remy and Radamel Falcao before the transfer window closes.
Alexandre Pato is all set to sign a six-month loan deal at the club, with a view to a permanent switch this summer.
But the Blues are said to be pursuing other strike options to help ease the load on Diego Costa.
As for Griezmann, last week Simeone said he would not stand in the player's way if he wanted to quit.
"The sporting directors have been speaking to him directly, with those close to him, in order to work out what's best for him and the club," said Simeone.
"Of course he's a very important player for us, but we can't hold him here with chains."
