LIVERPOOL'S odds to sign Shakhtar Donetsk forward Alex Teixeira have plummeted as the clubs struggle to agree a fee.
Sky Bet have priced the Reds at 9/4 to sign Teixeira before the January transfer window closes, with the Brazilian now at 1/2 to stay put this month.
Jurgen Klopp's side had a £24.5million bid rejected for the 26-year-old and have yet to make a return bid due to the gulf in valuations.
News News Blog Sport understand Shakhtar are reluctant to sell Teixeira, who has scored 26 goals in as many appearances this term, for anything below their asking price of £38m.
But in an exclusive interview with Anfeld HQ, Teixeira confirmed he hopes to complete a move to Anfield before the window shuts.
“The team received one official offer from Liverpool,” said Teixeira. “It was rejected. I don’t know why. It was a great offer.
“It is frustrating but the manager and club president decided against it so now I am just waiting. Trying to be patient.
“It (Liverpool) is a huge club so many great players have passed through there. It would be an honour to defend the Liverpool shirt.
“There has only been one offer of €32m (£24.5m) and Shakhtar rejected it. I know my agent is still attempting everything possible to help me get to Liverpool.
“I want to be there but that is up to the club president. Now I can only hope. I don’t know what else to say.”
