ARSENE WENGER tried to laugh off speculation linking him with the signing of Mohamed Elneny but the midfielder looks set to arrive at the Emirates as soon as the transfer window opens on January 2.

Reports suggested the Basel midfielder had even undergone a medical in Paris ahead of a £7.4m move to Arsenal – although Wenger squirmed when asked to confirm it.
“You know more than I do,” he suggested. “Unfortunately we cannot announce anything at the moment about this player because nothing has been concluded.”
Wenger was more open in admitting he would be busy next month after failing to sign a single outfield player in the summer.

“I'll be busy, that's for sure,” he vowed. “I am already busy and I said already one month ago we are a bit short to deal with all the competitions we face, especially in midfield.
"We will be busy, yes.”
There may also be at least one departure, too. Mathieu Debuchy is desperate to force his way into the France squad ahead of the home European Championships this summer but has been frustrated by having to sit behind Hector Bellerin in the Arsenal pecking order.
As a result, Bacary Sagna has pinched the right-back position Debuchy held for the 2014 World Cup and Wenger said: “It's not impossible that he will leave. I'm happy if he stays but we'll see.”
