NEWCASTLE kept their nerve to see off Liverpool 2-0 with Georginio Wijnaldum the star of the show.
The Dutchman sealed all three points for Newcastle after his shot was deflected in off the hapless Martin Skrtel.
He then came to the fore again in added time, claiming the goal this instance - a deft chip over Simon Mignolet.
The win moves the magpies above their Tyne-Wear rivals Sunderland, into eighteenth place and is Steve McClaren's second win in five games.
The result brings to an end Liverpool's two-game unbeaten run, leaving the Reds in seventh place in the league.
