HIDEO KOJIMA is set to carry on making big games following his decision to leave Konami and partner with Sony for his first independent Kojima Productions title on the PS4.
Kojima spoke more on the subject of leaving behind the studio where he helped shape the Metal Gear Solid series, revealing that he considered stepping away from development on an extended break.
This plan, however, was scuttled after speaking to a close friend about what he should.
Kojima told the New Yorker that a "Hollywood friend" advised against it and pushed him to carry on in his own style.
“Hearing that affirmed to me that my role in this world is to keep on making big games for as long as I can,” Kojima said.
“That is the mission I’ve been given in life.”
The Metal Gear Solid 5 director also spoke more on the freedom he would now have with his own production company and how it was now up to him to take on the risks that come with big projects.
“Now that I’m independent, I can do what I want with much more speed," he added.
"I don’t need to invest time in unnecessary presentations. I shoulder the risk.”
“When I was in a company, my personal statements could be taken as the overall direction of the company. As such, I couldn’t say just anything.”
Kojima recently spoke more about his new project on the PS4, telling IGN how it could pan out and what fans could expect in terms of tone and ambition.
"I'm thinking smaller-scale, not too many people, and focusing on game creation at first," Kojima said.
"We'll be able to do things that are more edgy, preserving the quality we've had so far, while at the same time finding new challenges and exploring new areas."
Appreciate for the warm support from ppl all over the world. Given me an energy. I'll walk on my path I trust & continue my way of creation.
