Van Gaal wil hope that Feghouli can solve his attacking problems at Old Trafford |
According to reports in Italy, United are hoping to bend the ear of the Spanish club's new manager, Gary Neville, in an effort to bring the 25-year-old winger to Old Trafford.
The Algerian has made 10 appearances in La Liga this season, as Valencia have struggled in domestic and continental competitions.
The Spanish club sit eighth in La Liga, while a third straight Champions League defeat - Neville's first game in charge - to Lyon saw them fail to qualify for the knockout stages.
They could potentially face United after Christmas in the Europa League, but the Manchester club will hope to have Feghouli in red, not white, if that tie takes place.
Louis van Gaal was adamant his side are making progress despite crashing out of the Champions League with a defeat to Wolfsburg.
However, having spent more than £250million already in his time at United, the Dutch manager's claims that he is 'still rebuilding' the team may start to sound hollow if their struggles continue.
And having admitted his desire to sign two fast wingers in the January window to turbo-charge United's lacklustre forward line, Van Gaal sees Feghouli as perfectly fitting the bill.
But Feghouli is currently out with a foot injury, hence he missed Neville's Valencia debut, and the new manager will surely need to see him fit before he can decide whether the winger is surplus to requirements or not.
