LOUIS VAN GAAL insists there is no shame in winning the Europa League.
 
Van Gaal's Manchester United side dropped into Europe's second-tier club tournament after finishing third in their Champions League group on Tuesday.
It is only the second time since 1996 that United will play in the tournament, previously known as the UEFA Cup, although they did not enjoy any European football last term.
 
United are also out of the Capital One Cup but are keeping pace with the leading pack for the Premier League title.
And when asked in his weekly press conference if he would be happy with United's season were they to "just" win the Europa League, Van Gaal said: "Just? You think it's just? I'm not thinking like that.
"I have already won the Europa League with Ajax in my first season, and I was very proud of that.
"For me, the Euro (Europa) League is a big competition."
 
Van Gaal won the UEFA Cup with Ajax back in 1992 and the Champions League in Amsterdam three years later.
