MANCHESTER UNITED are coming under increasing pressure from their fans to sack Louis van Gaal and appoint Jose Mourinho as his replacement.
United were making no comment last night about Van Gaal's increasingly precarious position after their dismal autumn slump continued with a 2-1 home defeat by Norwich that left them nine points behind leaders Leicester.
But a growing number of supporters are making it clear that they have had enough of Van Gaal and want Mourinho to take charge - in time for their next home game against his former club Chelsea on Monday.
Sources close to Mourinho say he has always coveted the United job and a statement from his representatives over the weekend confirmed he is ready and willing to start work again straight away despite his departure from Stamford Bridge last Thursday.
Apart from fans losing patience with him, there are growing rumours that Van Gaal has "lost" the United dressing room and the players are no longer playing for him, ironically a similar scenario to Mourinho final few weeks at Chelsea.
Earlier this month, senior sources at United insisted they were happy with the progress being made under Van Gaal and even talked of extending his contract.
But after a win-less run of six games, the board are understood to be re-assessing that stance. And if Van Gaal fails to halt the slump at Stoke on Boxing Day it could prove his last game.
