MANCHESTER UNITED crashed to yet another shock Premier League defeat, losing 2-1 to Norwich at Old Trafford.
The Red Devils were lacklustre in the final third, despite the return of Wayne Rooney - making his 500th career appearance.
Cameron Jerome put the visitors ahead just before half time, before Alex Tettey doubled their lead nine minutes after the restart.
And Anthony Martial grabbed a goal for United on the 66th minute but it turned out to be nothing more than a consolation.
The home side started the game brightly with Rooney having two attempts inside the first 25 minutes and appeared to be the side on top.
However, Norwich then stunned United on 38 minutes courtesy of a goal from Jerome who tucked home despite David De Gea getting a strong hand on the shot.
The goal made hard viewing for the United fans at half time, with the jeers ringing out as Van Gaal headed down the tunnel.
And it was to get even worse for the Dutchman shortly after the restart - Jerome again involved but this time as the provider.
The striker fed the ball to Tettey who toe-poked a smart finish into the corner of the net on 54 minutes to give the Canaries a two-goal lead.
However, United were not down and out, with Anthony Martial getting one back for the home side - his 7th in all competiitons.
United then began to pile on the pressure forcing a smart save out of Declan Rudd from a Juan Mata free-kick but they ultimately couldn't find an equaliser.
The result has now put serious question marks over Van Gaal's position, with recently-sacked Jose Mourinho now at evens to take charge at Old Trafford.
The result ends a 26-year wait for a win at Old Trafford for Norwich.
