Liverpool have reportedly opened talks with Mats Hummels |
LIVERPOOL have reportedly opened talks with Borussia Dortmund over a move for defender Mats Hummels.
According to Italian outlet itasportpress, Jurgen Klopp is keen to rekindle his relationship with the German international who he managed at Dortmund.
Klopp confirmed last month Liverpool have no agreement in place with the German club to stop him from raiding their squad.
He said: "I have a good relationship with Borussia Dortmund and a good relationship with all the players there.
"So there could be a possibility – if we need a player then we could try.
"At this moment there is nothing to talk about.
"But there is no agreement that we can’t do business with Dortmund. There’s also no agreement that we can’t sell players to Dortmund!"
Manchester United were linked with the £24.5m-rated defender in the summer and it is believed they still hold an interest.
The 26-year-old is reportedly unhappy under Klopp's replacement Thomas Tuchel, but Dortmund have denied such claims.
"That's not the case. He's a very important player, sometimes not that low-maintenance. Above all I know that he's a decent lad," CEO Hans-Joachim Watzke said.
