SAM ALLARDYCE reckons it's will be too little, too late for the Chelsea stars who "betrayed" Jose Mourinho to turn it on against Sunderland.
And the Black Cats boss insists they will stand accused of "irresponsible" behaviour if they try to dedicate tomorrow's performance to the departed manager.
Allardyce takes his second-bottom side to Stamford Bridge tomorrow expecting a reaction from the Blues' under-performing stars.
Mourinho's troubled relationship with his players reached breaking point on Monday when he accused them of betraying him after the 2-1 defeat to Leicester.
He had high-profile spats with Diego Costa and Eden Hazard in the run-up to his departure, with the club in turmoil just a point above the drop zone.
Allardyce is keen to see how the Chelsea players react after their failure to perform this season ultimately spelled doom for Mourinho.
The pair struck up a friendship during a brief spell as rival bosses in last year's charity Soccer Aid match at Old Trafford, and Allardyce said: "It's a sad state of affairs when a team actually plays better when their manager has been sacked.
"I find that quite sad and irresponsible from a players' point of view, especially when they come out after the game and say, 'We've done that for the manager'.
"Why didn't they do it before he got sacked, then? It would have been much better if they'd been able to keep him a job.
"Jose going is a shock, but we're all bound by winning matches. If we don't, we all lose our job.
"I'm not sure whether his departure makes it harder or not for us. Everybody expects a reaction when a manager gets sacked."
